Following the recent exile of 222 political prisoners, the Youth and Student Unitmade up of young Nicaraguan opponents, pointed out through its different social platforms that once again the Daniel Ortega regime “demonstrates its weakness.”
“The exile of the 222 people released from political prisons has meant a serious violation of international law, representing a crime against humanity and human dignity,” the organization denounced.

However, they stress that the release of the former political hostages “fills our hearts with deep joy and hope to achieve a free Nicaragua.”
They also denounced and rejected “the arbitrary and unlawful reforms to the political constitution” that, according to analysts and human rights defenders, the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega created to repress the Nicaraguan people.
They also condemned the “illegitimate” trial against Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, who they affirm has become “a symbol of courage, faith and love for the Nicaraguan people.”
“We demand their release like that of the more than 30 political prisoners (who continue) in the prisons of the dictatorial regime, whose rights, freedoms and dignity continue to be attacked,” they demanded.

As for the young ex-political prisoners released, the Youth and Student Unit expressed their joy, stating that the kidnapped opponents “have managed to contact their families and transmit renewed energy to continue facing the dictatorial regime.”
“Today we reaffirm our commitment to Nicaraguan youth, to continue articulating a way out of the social, political, and democratic crisis in Nicaragua (…) Our leaders are more Nicaraguan than any dictator,” they concluded.
Despite the international rejection of the recent actions, Daniel Ortega has affirmed that the exile and cancellation of the Nicaraguan nationality of the exiled opponents has been “historic” because he argues that “they are fighting for peace.”
