“Here in the region there are young people who have great potential in soccer and basketball, but we need support to also be directed at this female sector, the opportunities are few despite the fact that in recent years, we have seen girls who have represented us. out of our country,” said Lestel Bans, a referee who dreams of a strong women’s team, whether in soccer or basketball, that will represent the Caribbean in national tournaments.

athletes without support
One of the great obstacles encountered by young and adolescent athletes in this region of the country is the lack of resources for recruitment and being able to join a club. Although there is a budget for the sports sector, the municipal mayor’s office must guarantee that it is for both the male and female sectors.
«There are no conditions, we only have a multi-purpose field for everyone and a field that is being built assigned to young athletes from the urban area. As women, we need better conditions and support specifically for girls who have great potential and skills in those two disciplines,” says Bans.
An athlete who is celebrating her 12th year in the fields regrets that she does not see support in developing women’s sports. «I have enjoyed it, I have not set limits, but now I plan to retire because there is no support, my greatest desire is to see ourselves formed in a selection and there is wood for that, but we have no way to get there. There is talent, but there are no resources,” laments the native athlete from the South Caribbean.
Call to Mayor
These women complain that the sports tournaments in the municipal multipurpose stadium are for men’s categories. This year an inter-municipal futsal tournament was inaugurated that involved young women, but it was difficult to organize and the date of another call is unknown.
