The tragic accident occurred on the national road that connects Tunja with the municipality of Paipa. According to the authorities’ report, the young cyclist hit the rear of a vehicle that was detained performing road maintenance work.
According to the report, apparently, Cárdenas trained with his head down down and failed to realize the presence of the vehicle, which resulted in the fatal outcome.

Juan David Cárdenas, a native of Soracá, Boyacá, demonstrated his potential from an early age. In 2021, a runner -up of the return to the future was crowned and subsequently signed by a team in Portugal, an experience that positioned him as one of the great promises of Colombian cycling.
