Cardiovascular diseases do not discriminate age, and it is becoming more and more common that young people between 40 and 50 years old present some cardiovascular disease, which is why the Social Security Fund (CSS) and its specialists, on World Heart Day, They ask the Panamanian population to become aware of their health and eating habits.
The director of the City of Health, Dr. Camilo Rodríguez, a cardiovascular surgeon, highlighted “it strikes me that I am seeing 40-year-old patients who should not be suffering from heart-related diseases.
He also explained that the disease that is positioned as number one, related to this condition, is “atherosclerosis” or the so-called obstruction of the veins of the heart, which is hereditary or as a result of poorly controlled diabetes and not having an adequate diet.
And although the ideal would be to try to reduce heart disease, the authorities are taking great steps to combat these evils because they have a new, modern and specialized Cardiovascular and Thoracic Institute, located in the City of Health, in which today a greater number of cardiac, thoracic and peripheral vascular surgeries are managed. “The population must be re-educated so that the generations to come have a pattern of preventive conduct,” concluded Dr. Camilo Rodríguez.
Approximately 25 peripheral vascular surgeries, 10 heart surgeries, and 10 chest surgeries have been performed in this center. Dr. Rodríguez highlighted “we are gradually increasing the workload, and we have the capacity to perform six surgeries at the same time.”
