In the Congress of the Republicmore than 200 young people will participate in the construction of the regulations of the Social Service for La Pazwhich will also be guaranteed for the provision of mandatory military service, as decreed by the Ministry of Defense.
Additionally, the Social Service for La Paz will be endorsed as experience for first employment by the Administrative Department of the Public Service, and will offer additional benefits such as financial remuneration during the provision of the serviceand discounts on academic programs and access to technical training at SENA.

Senator Iván Cepeda pointed out that In this space young people will be able to express their concerns and proposals regarding the implementation of the service.
“After more than a decade of work, together with different congressmen and organizations, and after having presented six legislative initiatives, Finally, young people will have the opportunity to put their talent and energy at the service of peace, taking a crucial step towards the end of violence and war in Colombia,” said Senator Iván Cepeda.

“Social Service for Peace offers an alternative to compulsory military service, allowing young people between 18 and 24 years old to actively contribute to the peace and reconciliation of the country through 11 modalities of service, which include activities such as digital literacy in rural areas, environmental protection, work with victims of armed conflict, and promotion of a culture of peace. This service aims not only to offer young people an option other than military service, but also involve them in fulfilling the commitments established in the Peace Agreement,” he indicated.
