A young man saved the lives of three people by donating his organs, doctors validated kidneys and liver that were transplanted in patients from Arequipa and Lima.
The 39th Donation and Transplant operation began in Arequipa and ended in Lima. Mary Díaz Gálvez, a doctor from the Procurement and Transplant Management of the Social Health Insurance (EsSalud), reported that doctors from the Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen National Hospital They arrived at the Alberto Seguín Escobedo health facility in Arequipa for kidney and liver validation and removal.

Two kidneys remained in the Arequipa hospital, while the liver was transferred to Almenara hospital, in Lima, intended for an adult, who was on the waiting list.
Members of the community participated in this action. Peruvian Air Force (FAP), doctors, specialists, nurses, technicians, administrative staff, ambulances, among others, united with the goal of saving lives.

EsSalud, so far in 2024, has performed more than 280 transplants in 39 operationss. Social Security performs 85% of organ transplants in the country.
“A donor can save the lives of up to nine people by donating their organs and tissues; therefore, it is necessary to continue to inform about the importance of organ donation so that the message reaches more people,” said the specialist.
He recalled that EsSalud has the ‘Donor Line’ (Line 107, option 8)where users can resolve their doubts about organ donation. He also called on people to put a YES on their ID to save more lives.
