A month after receiving a brutal beating in Santiago de Cubathe young journalist Enrique Pérez Fumero remains hospitalized in that city, but has continued to improve and is no longer serious.
The radio filmmaker and university professor is admitted to the special care room of the Saturnino Lora Provincial Hospital, and his medical condition remains “care”, although he left behind the severity in which he remained for weeks.
This was reported on Monday Víctor Hugo Leyva Sojo, president of the Union of Journalists (UPEC) in the Santiago territory, who said that Enrique “has visibly improved although he still has some cognitive lagoons.”
According to Leyva Sojo, the communicator “is capable of joining only from bed and remains with active physiotherapy”, a process that began last week.
“He has not done more fever and the antibiotic treatment is maintained until the cycle ends,” the union manager added in his publication, who promised to inform about his young colleague when there was “some significant change” in his state of health.

There, he explained, the young journalist would be “in contact with his family, but without other visits because he needs tranquility for his recovery process.”
Favorable evolution in the midst of growing violence
Pérez Fumero, who is a doctor of communication sciences and is known in the journalistic and radio medium for his second last name, was brutally assaulted in the early hours of last Sunday, August 3 allegedly to steal his shoes, cell phone and wallet, as it transcended then on social networks.
As a result, he suffered cranial fractures and other effects that led him to be between life and death, and to be surgically intervened twice after they performed a magnetic resonance in the province of Las Tunas.
The case, occurred in the midst of a growing wave of violence and criminal acts in Cuba – recognized even by authorities – Santiago shocked and the radial and journalistic guild, as well as many other people inside and outside the island.
Together with the orders for Enrique’s recovery that are maintained until today, many have advocated justice and severity is done and punished by their aggressors, as well as all the authors of other crimes and violent events that occurred in recent times.
However, so far the authorities have not publicly informed about the march of investigation of what happened or specified whether there are people detained for their alleged relationship with this case.
At the same time, other violent events in the country have been reported and, particularly in Santiago, even with fatalities.
