Young Cuban steals a boat to return to the Island

OnCubaNews

This Monday the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Cuban émigré aboard a damaged boat on the high seas. After being questioned, the man admitted that the boat was stolen, but surprised the authorities when he explained the reason: he was on his way to Cuba because he did not like living in the United States, reported the Local 10 News channel, an affiliate of the ABC network.

According to the sheriff’s office, a resident of Cayo Maratón reported his 40-foot fishing boat stolen Monday morning and reported that one of his former employees, 30-year-old Cristian Torres Pérez, had recently resigned “and was talking to return to Cuba, since he did not like living in the United States.”

Hours later, the Coast Guard Service contacted the owner of the vessel and informed him of the location where it was located: 50 miles from the coast. Arriving at the point, they found that the boat was damaged. Torres Pérez asked for help with his arms raised. He was immediately arrested.

The young man has been accused of serious crimes such as robbery and theft and will be presented before a judge on November 18.
