The 20-year-old young man, identified as Félix, remained at the disposal of the immigration authorities.
MADRID, Spain.- A 20-year-old Cuban man was arrested this December 24 in the municipality of Cuautlancingo, in the Mexican state of Puebla, after being surprised while trying to take products without paying for them from a supermarket, according to local authorities and press media in the region.
The incident occurred in a Chedraui chain store, where establishment staff detected the theft and notified the municipal police. Upon arriving at the scene, the agents verified the situation and proceeded to arrest the young man, identified as Félix “N.”.
According to the information available, the business decided not to file a formal criminal complaint for what happened. However, during the verifications carried out by the authorities, it was determined that the detainee did not have documents proving a legal stay in Mexican territory.
Given this situation, the Cuban citizen was transferred and placed at the disposal of the National Migration Institute (INM), body responsible for evaluating your immigration status and defining the corresponding administrative measures. Among the options provided for by Mexican legislation is the beginning of a procedure that could conclude with their return to Cuba.
The young man has been living in Mexico for about two years. During that period, he would have worked as a waiter in a nightclub in the state of Hidalgo, before settling in Puebla.
The municipal authorities of Cuautlancingo indicated that they maintain coordination with federal agencies to address cases that involve foreigners in an irregular immigration situation, especially when they are related to allegedly illicit acts.
So far, no official details have been offered regarding the resolution of the immigration process or the deadlines in which the INM could issue a final decision.
