The pain that took over the body of Sara Lila Cordero, 34, barely allowed her to move. Getting up for the medicine that was brought to her door or serving herself food represented a difficulty that she did not imagine experiencing if SARS-CoV-2 attacked her body, much less, after being vaccinated.
It all started with a chill that made her suspect the risk of being infected, but her blood PCR revealed no changes in her body. However, she felt a strong muscle pain that was accompanied by a stomach pain “terrible that she could not even eat.” “I would take a bite of food and roll over from stomach pain,” says Sara Lila, who had to do breathing exercises to manage the ailments.
He also had a fever, and felt weak. The cough appeared with a lot of chest and back pain. It was a stage that lasted for three days, which she suffered isolated in her house at the beginning of September. “You can’t even get up”, it’s like “the body ache of a temperature, but multiply it”, “I was sweating from the fever, but that body ache still –I had it–” she describes.
The infection was never shown through a PCR blood test, but the diagnosis was confirmed by an antigen test on the fifth day of symptoms. “That is what is happening – to many people – that the tests are done, they are negative while they continue to incubate the virus”, but they continue their routine, without realizing that they can infect others, he reflects.
She admits that, if the disease had not manifested itself in a strong way, and with the first negative result she obtained, she would also have kept her occupations without knowing that she was infected and could transmit the virus.
Sara Lila had traveled to the United States to protect herself against covid-19. She was given the Johnson & Johnson vaccine – in a single dose – last May, since at that time there were still no vaccines for young people in Nicaragua.
Sara Lila knew that, despite being vaccinated, she was not safe from the virus, but she thought the impact would be milder. “To be vaccinated, she hit me super hard (…)”, she values. The virus is so new that having the serum does not guarantee survival, she adds.
While Sara Lila was getting better from her fatigue, body and chest pain, other family members, including her grandparents, were also fighting the pandemic. It was not a contagion between the family, because they kept their distance as a preventive measure; However, the virus surprised them through different forms of transmission, and on September 8 the young woman published a farewell to her grandfather:
“You taught us that life takes advantage of every minute, that life is not over, until it is really over, and that when it is over, it is not over either because there are so many memories left, in all of us. We adore you and we already miss you, Papacito, ”she wrote on her Twitter account, the young woman who managed to recover.
