The president of the Board of Directors of the National College of Pharmacists (Conalfarm) Jaime Olive classified as opportune the changes that have been registered in the technical work table to solve the shortage of medicines, however, he indicated, it must be accepted that there are shortcomings to correct and push forward.
Olive’s statements come after this Monday, the technical committee led by the Vice President of the Republic José Gabriel Carrizo Jaén approved recommending to President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, to extend for another six months the 30% discount measure for 170 medicines from the exceptional or emergency list.
Olive mentioned the modifications that have been made to some decrees and laws to achieve the achievement of medicines in the short term and reminded the director of the Social Security Fund (CSS), Enrique Lau that he has put a draft of the supply contract for the purchase of medicines.
He explained that the medicine has to pass the bidding for a supply contract that has a series of specifications to make the purchase viable and that the company delivers it to the institution, according to the needs.
“What we cannot accept is that it is said that they have 90% supply because that is false. We have to accept that we have shortcomings to move forward, ”said Olive.
He added that all the changes that have been made are timely, but if the CSS does not make the corresponding changes, it is as if they did nothing.
He asked patients who go to pharmacies for their medicines to have patience and understanding with pharmacists, since their work is limited to dispensing medicines.
