A citizen originally from Germany decided to change course and bet on a new life in Colombia. Five years ago he left his native country and undertook an agricultural project he called “edible forest” in Risaralda, an initiative that he proudly displays today through social networks.
The man, who identifies himself as “the German peasant,” shared that his decision did not respond only to a geographical change, but to a personal transformation. “You don’t choose where you are born, but you do choose where you put your roots down,” he expressed in one of his publications.
Since arriving in the country, he began to work the land and plant different field products. In their videos and photographs, banana, cassava and other foods typical of tropical agriculture can be seen, which are part of this productive ecosystem that combines trees, plants and food in the same space.
The project, as he explains, is not limited to producing food. For him, planting implies a deeper relationship with the environment. “Many ask me why I left Germany and came to live in the Colombian countryside. Here I learned that planting is not just about producing food, it is about putting down roots and taking care of what takes care of us,” he said.
