CDMX, Mexico-. The popular singer Leoni Torres wrote yesterday on his networks a complaint about the situation in Cuba, where although there is no economic well-being, there is no lack of repression. The musician expressed his solidarity with the political prisoners and their families, whom he described as “future heroes.”
The message was shared with a direct from Tahirí Lorenzo Prado, the mother of the 11J protester Andy García Lorenzo. Thairí protested alone to demand the release of her son and denounce the mistreatment she suffers.
According to Lorenzo Prado, Andy, sentenced to four years, was threatened with death in prison because his family is concerned about his physical integrity. Thairí held State Security responsible for anything that happens with his son.
“You are criminals, the real murderers are you who are ordering to kill the political prisoners inside the jail. Not one more death threat against my son, ”she added visibly desperate in the transmission that she shared Leoni.
The singer, twice nominated for the Latin Grammys, also pointed out the disparity that exists in Cuba where the rulers ask the people for the sacrifices that they do not suffer.
“This is what the Cuban government has dedicated itself to for many years. They are not good at improving the economy of a country, much less at meeting the most basic needs of the people. What are they really good at? In suppressing, manipulating, destroying, separating, lying, mistreating. Meanwhile, their children and grandchildren live the good life,” Torres highlighted.
Leoni also expressed his admiration for the García Lorenzo family, which has been one of the most active and courageous in denouncing the situation of Cuban political prisoners. “My respects for this family and for all those who go through something like this. You are the future heroes. Freedom for Andy and for all political prisoners! ”, he concluded.
Among the users who have commented on Leoni’s publication and applauded his attitude, exile icon Willy Chirino stands out, who wrote:
“Dear Leo, what accurate words. The freedom of Cuba depends on us. Raising the voice for our people and denouncing the dictatorship is a duty of every Cuban…Long live Cuba Libre! Down with that anachronistic, long-lived and failed dictatorship! Freedom for Andy and all political prisoners!
In recent years Leoni has also been in the news for his public comments against the Cuban regime and the repression on the island. The musician was one of those who was present at the sitting in front of the Ministry of Culturewhere young Cubans demanded an end to the harassment of independent art.
Also after the July 11 protests, Torres was one of the Cuban artists who showed his support for the protesters. In a video made with his wife, the actress Yuliet Cruz, said: “EThe call that was made on television to foment a civil war between Cubans, It is not the way. That was the worst decision that the rulers of this country could make.
Acclaimed by the Cuban public, Torres uses his networks and influence to promote Cuba’s message of freedom and denounce the lies the government spreads. A few weeks ago he wrote:
“They have just murdered 7 people, including a 2-year-old girl and this one appears on television saying how many more do they have to kill to get what they want? This is the last straw for God’s sake! ️ Already the level of evil of There are no limits to these traitors to their people,” commented the interpreter following the intervention of MININT on Cuban television, after the sinking of the boat from Bahia Honda.
