More than 24 hours have passed since the arbitrary arrest of the opposition leader and former political prisoner Yubrank Suazo Herrera, who was violently removed from his home on Wednesday morning, June 18, by the Police at the service of the Daniel Ortega regime. Currently, he is being held in the Judicial Assistance Directorate (DAJ) in Managua.
In interview with Article 66the human rights defense attorney Yonarqui Martínez explained that 48 hours must elapse for the police authority to provide information on the legal situation of the political activist.

He also indicated that there are different scenarios that Suazo Herrera can face at the hands of the Police. In the first instance, Martínez points out that the opponent can be transferred to the judicial authority and a 90-day measure can be filed to carry out investigative procedures or he can be released.
However, he does not rule out the possibility that the member of the opposition Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy be banished, as happened with Nicaraguan singers who were arrested in April and later expelled from Nicaragua.
“Let us remember that the last detainees —the artists Salvador Espinoza, Xóchitl Tapia, Josué Monroy, Leonardo Canales— were not prosecuted but were exiled from their country,” the jurist indicated.
«Yubrank is a young man who never had freedom»
The rights defender lamented that the former prisoner of conscience never had freedom, “because since he was released he could not be calm at home, he always had to be on the run to be safe, but there was a moment when he did not want to be out, but unfortunately this terrible incident happened.”

“We will wait 48 hours to find out what decision the authorities make. I advocate that the National Police act in an accurate manner and release him because they have no legal basis to say that he is guilty, “he added.
The lawyer concluded that the violation of human rights will continue to be documented because the situation of violation of a good citizen and that he is innocent cannot be taking place.
Suazo was imprisoned in 2018 for more than nine months in the Jorge Navarro Penitentiary System, known as La Modelo, in Tipitapa, accused by the Nicaraguan justice of being a terrorist, he was released on June 11, 2019 and joined the Civic Alliance for the Justice and Democracy. However, he now joins the list of more than 180 political prisoners.
Although it was speculated that Suazo Herrera had gone into exile, the opponent told this media outlet on May 17 that he was in Nicaragua and that he would continue to denounce the abuses of the Daniel Ortega dictatorship. “When I make the decision to leave Nicaragua, I will inform you,” he said.
