Madrid, Spain.- Dozens of protesters gathered in front of the Cuba Embassy in Mexico City to denounce the death in the custody of the political dam Yoleisy Oviedo Rodríguez and demand the release of Cuban political prisoners, with emphasis on the cases of Lázaro Loreto Hernández and Miguel Díaz Bauza.
Most protesters were young students, members of a campaign that has gained strength in Latin America, driven by the outrage that generated Oviedo’s death On February 11. The activist, mother of two children, was arrested after participating in a protest on October 10, 2022 in Güines, Mayabeque, against the blackouts and the lack of freedom in Cuba. Condemed to five years in prison in November 2023, he suffered several medical conditions that were never properly treated during their seclusion. He died at the “El Guatao” forced labor camp, in Havana, under conditions that human rights defenders qualify as inhumans.
During the demonstration in Mexico City, attendees showed banners with the phrases “Justice for Yoleisy” and “Freedom for Cuba.” Sets were heard that responsible for the Cuban regime for their death, which consider part of a systematic policy of repression against dissent.

In the act, other cases were also remembered, such as Loreto Hernández Garcíaarrested during the protests of July 11, 2021 and sentenced to seven years in prison. Recognized as a prisoner of conscientious by Amnesty International, Hernández has seen his health in prison deteriorate. Despite medical recommendations, he has denied the extrapenal license that his life could save.
Another of the cases denounced was that of Miguel Díaz Bauza82, who has already turned 30 years in political prison and continues imprisoned after receiving a new eight -year sentence. It remains in the “Camp #2” of Remedios, in Villa Clara.
The campaign in honor of Oviedo has transcended borders. In countries such as Chile, Peru, El Salvador, Uruguay and Venezuela have appeared signed by the “Yoleisy Oviedo command”, which demand freedom for the Cuban people and pay homage to the activist.
For its part, the Christian Democratic Organization of America (ODCA) expressed its rejection of the Cuban regime through a publication on social networks, holding it for the death of Oviedo. Its president, Mariana Gómez del Campo, announced that the Cuban democratic directory posted Pedro Luis Boitel 2025 posthumously to Oviedo, in recognition of her struggle.
