Cuban Yoenli Hernández today retained his world title in 75 kilograms at the Tashkent 2023 World Boxing Championship, thus granting Cuba the first gold medal in the contest.
The boxer defeated Brazilian Wanderley Pereira in the middleweight final, whom he ended up dominating to win the unanimous verdict of the judges (5-0), Prensa Latina pointed out.
Hernández made his way to the final yesterday by beating Frenchman Moreno Fendero 5-0.
The Cuban came to this appointment with the intention of maintaining the dominance achieved two years ago in Belgrade, when he was victorious against the same Brazilian fighter.
Meanwhile, at 60 Erislandy Álvarez lost 1-4 to Frenchman Sofiane Oumiha, who participated in the world fair as double world champion and Olympic runner-up in Rio de Janeiro 2016.
