Yipsi Moreno leaves the National Athletics Commission after terrible Cuban performance in Eugene

MIAMI, United States. — The former Cuban hammer fighter Yipsi Moreno resigned from her position as National Athletics Commissioner, the newspaper reported this Saturday Hit.

The official media pointed out that the 2008 Beijing Olympic champion left the position of her own free will and that she will be replaced by Rolando Carlos Charró Estrada.

As the new athletics commissioner “comrade Rolando Carlos Charró Estrada has been appointed, who worked as director of INDER in the province of Guantánamo,” indicates the note, signed by the Board of Directors of that organization.

The sports authorities insisted that Moreno’s departure from the National Athletics Commission was due to the “personal will” of the former athlete, who had held the position since 2018.

Yipsi Moreno’s resignation comes after the dismal performance of Cuban athletics at the World Championships in Eugene (United States), where the Island delegation left without medals for the first time in history.

Despite the Eugene fiasco, Yipsi tried to defend his management by ensuring that what happened in the United States could not be described as a failure.

“Oregon, I think that for every champion, for everyone who works, who makes an effort and always tries to give their best and even more those of us in the athletics family, it is dissatisfaction, it is sadness, but a temporary sadness, because at In the end, we all knew what could happen in Oregon,” Moreno told Tele Rebelde Channel after returning from the World Cup.

In addition to the poor results, the Cuban delegation also made headlines for the abandonment of three of its members: discus thrower Yaimé Pérez, javelin thrower Yiselena Ballar and physiotherapist Carlos González Morales.
