Yeremin Salsines Janes, another Cuban beaten during the 11J protests

Yeremin Salsines Janes, Cuba, 11J

Havana Cuba. — In the prison of maximum rigor 5 ½ kilolocated on the East-West highway, in the western province of Pinar del Río, the 11J protester Yeremin Salsines Janes is being held prisoner.

Salsines Janes is 32 years old and lives in the provincial capital of Artemisa. Through his wife, we have been able to learn that while he was participating in the massive popular protests on July 11, 2021, he was beaten, his head was split, and, although he was bleeding profusely, he was not offered medical assistance until the following day.

The young woman indicates that after being violently arrested, the protester was initially taken to the unit of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) of Artemisa. At night they transferred him to the detention center known as the Cuatro Caminos Technician, in Guanajay. She also emphasizes that for more than 30 days she was not allowed to see him. Only after he filed a habeas corpus demanding proof of life they let her interview him for just five minutes. She emphasizes that in that meeting she was able to observe that Yeremin showed signs of having been beaten.

He was transferred from the Cuatro Caminos Technician to the maximum rigor prison in Guanajay, where, together with a group of other protesters, he participated in a hunger strike in support of the march called for November 15, 2021. In retaliation, the strikers were handcuffed and then beaten.

Yeremin Salsines Janes was held captive in that prison facility until early July, when, along with three other protesters, he was transferred without prior notice to the Kilo 5 ½ prison, which violates the Jail and Prison Regulations. He was accused of assault, contempt and public disorder and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
