The Attorney General of the Republic, Yeni Berenice Reynosoreported this Sunday through his X account that instructed a criminal investigation into illegal occupations and possible fraud in protected areas of the country.
“I have conducted a criminal investigation into illegal occupations and possible fraud, and formed a special team to investigate the facts, establish responsibilities and charge charges,” the judge said in her publication.

Protected areas are not negotiable.

The measure includes the designation of a special investigation team that will be in charge of delving into the complaints, determining possible criminal networks, acts of corruption or administrative irregularities linked to the natural heritage.
According to the information released by the Public Ministry, the investigations will cover areas under investigation such as the Jaragua National Park, Bucanyé, Sierra de Bahoruco, Valle Nuevo, Dunas de Baní and the Hoyo del Pino National Park.
Likewise, the preparation of a national report on the legal and environmental situation of the 134 protected areas of the country that make up the National System of Protected Areas (SINAP) is contemplated.
The objective, the Attorney General’s Office specified, is to establish criminal responsibilities and protect the natural heritage of the Dominican Republic.
