Nine provinces and the city of Buenos Aires were under orange and yellow alerts for storms this Friday, with an expected cumulative rainfall between 30 and 60 millimeters, strong gusts and hail in some locations, reported the National Meteorological Service (SMN).
According to the agency, the province and city of Buenos Aires will be affected by storms of varying intensity, some of which may be “strong or severe”.
The city of Buenos Aires, La Plata and towns in the east and south of Buenos Aires are under yellow alert, while the central and western departments of the province are under orange alert.
The organization indicated that in the localities where governs the orange alert, accumulated precipitation values between 30 and 60 millimeters are expected, which can be exceeded “in a localized way”.
The SMN also issued a yellow alert for storms for this afternoon for the area comprised by Mar Chiquita, Mar del Plata and Miramar, some locally strong that will be accompanied by intense gusts of wind, occasional hail, strong electrical activity and abundant water fall in short periods.
The drop of between 20 and 45 mm is expected in these areas of the coast, but these marks can be exceeded in a timely manner.
From the Municipality of General Pueyrredon it was indicated that in the event of any difficulty “neighbors and tourists may contact 103 (Civil Defense), 107 (SAME), 911 (Police) or 100 (Firefighters) by telephone.”
Another orange alert applies to the east of the provinces of Chubut and Rio Negrowho expect heavy rains during this afternoon and night.
According to the daily report of the SMN, a large part of Cordova It is under yellow alert, while in some towns in the eastern province, storms of greater intensity are expected.
The orange alert also applies to the north of La Pampa and south of Santa Fewhile in other departments of both provinces there is a yellow alert for storms.
Meanwhile, in the provinces of Between Rios, San Luis and La Rioja -under yellow warning- an accumulated precipitation between 20 and 45 millimeters is expected, the agency indicated.
The storms in these towns in the center and south of the country “may be accompanied by intense gusts, occasional hail, strong electrical activity and abundant rainfall in short periods.”
Likewise, the SMN recommended for the affected areas not to take out the garbage or objects that prevent water from draining, avoid outdoor activities, not take refuge near trees and electricity poles that could fall, and not stay on beaches, rivers, lagoons or pools.
