The National Weather Service (SMN) issued this Saturday yellow and orange level alerts for snowfall, until Monday inclusive, for the Andean zone of the provinces of La Rioja and San Juanand another alert for zonda wind for the sanjuanina mountain range from the northwest, at the beginning of the week.
The agency’s early warning report detailed that the yellow level alert for this Saturday until afternoon, due to snowfall for the General Lamadrid and Vinchina mountain rangesin the province of La Rioja, implies that those who circulate or live in that place must “keep informed”.
Meanwhile, for Saturday night and Sunday it is expected Orange alertwhich implies “get ready, because dangerous meteorological phenomena for society, life, property and the environment are expected”.
Then, the yellow watch for snow will continue for the rest of Sunday and Monday with another Zonda wind watch for the beginning of the week.
The yellow alert implies that the coverage area will be affected by persistent snowfallsome of which may be locally strong, so accumulated snow values between 30 and 80 centimeters high are expected, and may be exceeded in a timely manner.
For the orange level, the accumulated snow during the alert period it can reach between 80 and 100 centimeters in heightin addition to a reduction in visibility due to snow in suspension, due to the strong winds expected in the region.
The yellow alert for Zonda wind foresees that the Andean area will be affected by winds from the west sector with speeds between 65 and 80 kilometers per hour and gusts that can reach 100.
For the province of San Juan, the Cordillera de Iglesia is the northwestern mountain range of that region where the yellow alert for snowfall was also announced until today afternoon and another orange, for the afternoon or evening.
And the yellow alert continues for the same condition for Sunday morning and Monday afternoon.
