After the collapse of a girder on Line 12 of the Metro, the minister’s husband was appointed by the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, as one of the six specialists who They would be in charge of designing the project for the rehabilitation of the so-called Golden Line.
The proximity to the transformation project
The minister was not only proposed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, she has also defended the projects of the so-called “Fourth Transformation”.
The President of the Republic himself affirmed that the minister has been consistent and considered that her adversaries are afraid that she is the one who presides over the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation.
“Why do you suppose that Yasmín is our candidate? Because she has acted with great rectitude and has supported our incursions into the Judiciary, when everyone was against the electricity law, she defended our position and everything they want to declare as unconstitutional, she has voted together with Minister Loretta Ortiz and very few, but she has been very consistent,” she said on Monday.
Those of conservatism are afraid that she will be president because she is a woman who agrees with the transformation of the country.

Controversial issue
When she was proposed as minister, Yasmín Esquivel also expressed her rejection of abortion. When asked her position, she said that it was for life, but that she conformed to the law.
“Obviously I am in favor of life; However, it is not a personal or ethical issue, it is an issue where we have to adjust to what the legislation has established”.
Organizations such as Equis Justicia para las Mujeres, the Information Group on Chosen Reproduction (GIRE) and the Simone de Beauvoir Leadership Institute (ILSB) asked to reject the shortlist that President López Obrador had proposed because neither Esquivel nor any of the other candidates ( Celia Maya García and Loretta Ortiz Ahlf) were suitable, also because they showed little knowledge of the Human Rights framework.
Their position against abortion, they warned, was contrary to rulings of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation itself and contrary to a guarantee vision.
The Court had already resolved several appeals that had been filed against the criminalization of abortion. In September 2021, the Supreme Court of Justice ruled that criminalizing abortion was unconstitutional.
