CDMX, Mexico.- The Los Mochis de Sinaloa team defeated by 5 runs to nil to the Algodoneros de Guasave, also from Sinaloa, in the sixth match of the Serie. At the Chevron Park™ stadium they obtained a trophy for which they had waited 20 years, thanks in large part to the spectacular campaign of Cuban Yasmany Tomás.
Thomas consecrated his performance in the Mexican Pacific ARCO League with a full night. The “tank”, as the fans of the Cañeros nickname him, propelled the first three runs of the Los Mochis team with a tremendous double through the right field that caused the uproar of the green fans.
In that same fifth inning, they scored the fourth and fifth runs that closed the shutout of the sugarcane growers to the Guasave cotton growers. The latter accumulate another year, after five decades, without being champions.

In the previous day, Guasave had managed to win the fifth by controlling the batting of the cane players. But for this sixth, the canemen took out Nick Struck on the mound and they couldn’t hit him. The American held a pitching class by pitching 7 innings without allowing any damage. The right-hander only allowed one hit. The work on the hill was completed by Fabián “El Indio” Cota making another important relief of two innings against the Algodoneros offense.
The greens, who were second in overall standing and in points, went undefeated playing at home in the postseason.
Next stop: the Caribbean series
Tomás will play with the Mochis in the Caribbean Series based in Venezuela. The tournament will feature the participation of the champions of Colombia, Cuba, Curaçao, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and the host, Venezuela. It is considered the most important baseball tournament in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The former industrialist will face the team of his native country in said tournament. Precisely the athlete yearns to wear the uniform of the four letters again. After learning that he would not be selected to integrate the Cuban pre-selection for the next World Classic, he expressed how disappointed he felt about it.
URIARTE MVP of the final and Tomás of the league
After collaborating with 6 RBIs (leader in the final), 1 home run and .476 AVG, catcher and designated hitter Juan Uriarte received the award as Most Valuable Player of the Final Series presented by Caliente.mx.
For his previous performance, the Cuban was selected the Most Valuable Player of the league.
The previous days there had been an imminent madness in the stadium. A human avalanche was registered on the outskirts of the installation of the cañeros by all the people who came to get a ticket for the final. There were no human losses to regret, but there were injured people.
