Yasmani Tomás requests to play with Industriales

The burly baseball player from Havana, chosen as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Mexican professional league last season, officially requested his incorporation into the team industrial in this National Series.

As reported on his networks by the journalist Boris Luis Cabrera, who writes for the newspaper Havana TribuneTomás’ formal request letter has already been signed by Guillermo Carmona, director of the Havana team, and by Ernesto Alfonso, Provincial Baseball Commissioner in the Cuban capital.

The petition, explains Cabrera, “must still have the approval of the highest INDER authorities, but it is expected that there will be no setbacks for the authorization.”

Yasmany Tomás, who played four seasons in MLB with the Arizona Diamondbacks, “could join the same day, May 23, when Industriales returns to the Latinoamericano stadium to face the Camaguey Bulls,” the reporter explains.

In this way, the 32-year-old player would be “eligible to be part of the Cuba team that will attend the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador at the end of June,” he adds.

As Cabrera himself recalls in his post, Tomás, who is known as “El Tanke”, was part of the Industriales team between 2008 and 2013, and was part of the national team for the World Classic that last year.

In June 2014 it came out and five months later signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks for $68.5 million. In MLB he hit 48 home runs, 31 of them in the 2016 season, although he didn’t have many opportunities afterwards, the journalist refers.
