The 22-year-old becomes the first Cuban canoeing woman to win an Olympic medal.

With this medal, the seventh for the Cuban delegation in Paris, the island is in 26th place in the medal table (2-1-4), a performance well below the 5 golds that the regime authorities had predicted before the Games.

This Friday, in an unprecedented event in Olympic athleticsCuban Jordan Díaz, representing Spain, won the gold medal in the men’s triple jump, with a time of 17.86. He was followed by two other Cubans, Pedro Pablo Pichardo and Andy Díaz, who won silver and bronze respectively.

It was the first time that three athletes from the same country but competing for other nations topped an Olympic podium.

None of the medals went to the Island. While Pichardo, with a jump of 17.84, represented Portugal; Díaz, who achieved a mark of 17.63, was part of the official delegation of Italy.

The only Cuban representing the Caribbean island, Lázaro Martínez, scored 17.34 and came in eighth place.
