Yan Luis Arrieta, new leader of the Tour of Cuba to the eastern region

THE ARTEMISEÑO Yan Luis Arrieta (National Team) won the second stage and is the new leader of the Tour of Cuba in the eastern region after running the 101.6-kilometer journey from Guantánamo to this city.

Arrieta set a time of 2:20.16 hours, as well as his closest pursuers, Hidalgo Vera from Guantanamo and Andy Díaz (EN) from Sancti Spiritus.

He was followed by Javier Cabrera (National Sub-23), Yoendry Freire, from Sancti Spiritus, who runs through Ciego de Ávila, and Juan Manuel Cabrera (Cienfuegos Technical Center), all three with a time of 2.22.20, and Yariel de León, from Matanzas, from CTC (2:26.40).

They were all pedaling together after Yoandri and Díaz began an early escape from Guantánamo. The others managed to stick together and kept up the pace until they took the first turn of the circuit through the most important avenues of Santiago.

On a climb, Arrieta, Vera and Díaz broke free of the lot and could not be caught in the last four laps (20 km).

They arrived alone at the finish line in front of the Ciudad Escolar 26 de Julio, where Yan Luis, wearing the green mountain champion pullover, imposed his power to calmly ensure victory and this Friday he will wear the red jacket of the general leader of the tour.

The previous point guard, Luis Ramírez, a member of the national team that represents the Granma team, was placed 22nd. He was unable to defend his privileged position when he entered with the main squad nine minutes and 42 seconds after the winner and new headline.

In the initial part of the stage, the fugitives fought for two flying goals, one in La Maya (km 47.1) with a bonus of seconds for the first three, who were Arrieta, Juan Manuel and Díaz.

The second, located when entering the Santiago circuit (km 76.6), was negotiated by Juan Manuel, Andy and Yan Luis, in that order.

The intermediate junction announced for Songo (km 54) was canceled due to irregularities on the road.

This Thursday the third stage will be held in the 115.6-kilometer segment from Santiago de Cuba to Bayamo, capital of Granma province. There will be flying goals in Palma Soriano (km 41.6), Contramaestre (69.6) and Jiguaní (91.6), the latter with a bonus.

The game will be controlled from the 26 de Julio School Center to the Trebol de la Autopista, where the black and white checkered flag will be lowered at nine in the morning. Until now, only Hamel de la Cruz from Guantanamo had to leave due to lymphangitis in one leg.
