On a historic election day, Yamandu Orsi was chosen as the new president of Uruguay with 49.66%, against 46.06% obtained by Álvaro Delgado, the now former candidate of the National Party.

In his first speech as president-elect, Orsi highlighted the night as a moment of profound gratitude. He extended a message of respect towards those who support other ideologies, recognizing their role in strengthening Uruguayan democracy.

Orsi stressed the importance of including all citizens in building a common future, calling for collaboration beyond political differences. “I will be the president who works for a more integrated society,” he stated, pledging not to leave anyone behind in economic, social and political terms.

For its part, Carolina Cosseelected vice president, made an emotional appearance, remembering former president Tabaré Vázquez before a crowd of Frente Amplio militants who gathered on the Ciudad Vieja promenade. “Today begins a path of peace and tolerance,” declared Cosse, promising a future of unity for the nation and reiterating the commitment to building a progressive course.

At the event, which took place in front of the NH Hotel, headquarters of the Frente Amplio campaign command, Orsi and Cosse offered their consecutive speeches, culminating the night with a call for hope and joint work to move towards a better Uruguay.
