The presidential candidate for the Frente Amplio, Yamandu Orsiwas at the closing of the campaign of the Popular Participation Movement (MPP – Frente Amplio) underlining the importance of the days prior to the elections. In a crowded event held in the emblematic 1º de Mayo square, near the Legislative Palace, Orsi was unexpectedly accompanied by the former president Jose Mujicawhich added a special touch to the closing day of the campaign.

During his speech, Orsi urged his followers to convince those who have not yet decided their vote. He highlighted the relevance of the final moments before the elections, mentioning that many people determine their electoral preference in the last 24 to 48 hours. “The people who decide in the end are our neighbors, who don’t like that we are always talking to them about politics,” he pointed out insistently.

Orsi giving the last mile of the campaign

Orsi recognized that direct contact with citizens may have been an aspect neglected by the Frente Amplio in past governments. He recalled the recommendations of Mujica and Vázquez about the importance of territorial interaction. He expressed that this connection is what transforms “true joy” into tangible hope among Uruguayans, pointing to a more personal and close approach with voters.

At the end of his speech, Orsi communicated his main motivations for aspiring to the presidency. He declared his intention to lead a “different Uruguay”, which prioritizes social well-being and cohesion as fundamental aspects of his vision. He advocated for a country that combats inequalities and fosters a protective environment for its citizens, continuing with social policies appreciated by the population.

Orsi promises a country with a prosperous future

Orsi projected a future where Uruguay expands its productive capacitywithout neglecting the countryside and traditional sectors such as rice and meat production. This strategy seeks to balance the economic development with the conservation of natural resources, betting on a robust economy that favors exports and technological innovation.

He stressed the importance of technological development in the country, referring to opportunities in areas such as software and artificial intelligence. He emphasized his desire to introduce more technological infrastructure such as data centers, transforming Uruguay into a competitive representative in logistics and technology services.

However, he did not fail to mention the problem of insecurity that attacks the country. He proposed a comprehensive approach that includes both the direct fight against crime and addressing the roots of these problems in communities. “Security is a fundamental human right,” he stated, thus committing to prioritize this challenge in his possible administration.
