The Broad Front candidate, Yamandú Orsi, became the future president of Uruguay this Sunday, after defeating the official candidate, Álvaro Delgado, of the National Party, by just over 90,000 votes, with 98% of the electoral circuits counted, according to data provided by the Electoral Court.
With 98.65% of the circuits scrutinized, The Frente Amplio formula, made up of Orsi and Carolina Cosse, obtained 1,179,454 votes, while that of the ruling National Party achieved 1,086,758.

These numbers show that the Frente Amplio maintains an advantage of 92,696 votes and obtained 107,628 more votes than it had obtained in the first round of the presidential and parliamentary elections on October 27.
Besides, 37,926 people voted blank, while 63,605 annulled their vote in an instance in which 89.4% of those eligible voted.
After knowing the first projections of the consultants, the current president of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, and Delgado congratulated Orsi on his victory.
Later, the new president gave a speech to the militants in which he assured that he will be the president “of national growth” and the one who builds “a more integrated society.”

“I will be the president of national growth. I am going to be the president who calls again and again for national dialogue to find the best solutions. Of course, with our proposals, but also listening well to what others tell us,” announced candidate Yamandú Orsi, from the Frente Amplio.
And he added: “I am going to be the president who build a more integrated society, a more integrated country, where, despite even the differences, no one will be able to be left behind from the economic, social and political point of view”.
