Xi Jinping personally criticizes US aggression against Venezuela

In a high-impact diplomatic move, Chinese President Xi Jinping has broken his usual reserve on international operational matters to personally condemn the US military offensive in Venezuela. During a meeting in Beijing with the Prime Minister of Ireland, Micheál Martin, the Chinese leader described the strategy of “unilateral intimidation” as a direct threat to global stability.

It is unusual for the Chinese head of state to speak so explicitly and personally about an ongoing conflict. However, given the seriousness of the situation, Xi Jinping was blunt: “The world today is experiencing turbulence not seen in a century. Unilateral acts of hegemony seriously undermine the international order,” Xi stated, directly linking these words to the military aggression and kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro.

The Chinese leader emphasized that the great powers have the moral obligation to “set an example” in compliance with the United Nations Charter, demanding that the sovereignty of Venezuela and the will of its people be respected without external interference.

«All countries must respect the development paths independently chosen by the people of other nations, comply with international law and the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations; and the great powers, in particular, must set an example in this sense,” he stressed.

This presidential position reinforces previous statements by Chinese diplomacy. Foreign Minister Wang Yi insisted that no nation should assume the role of police or judge of the world, defending that the sovereignty and security of all States must be fully protected.

China supports settling the conflict in the UN Security Council

Earlier, China’s foreign spokesman Lin Jian said: “China respects the sovereignty and independence of Venezuela and trusts that the Venezuelan government will properly resolve its internal affairs in accordance with its own constitution and legislation. “The cooperation between China and Venezuela is the cooperation between sovereign states, which enjoys the protection of international law and the legislations of both countries… China’s willingness to deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields between the two countries will not change, and China’s legitimate interests in Venezuela will also be protected in accordance with the law.”

Lin indicated that “China supports the United Nations Security Council convening an emergency meeting on the military attack launched by the United States against Venezuela, and supports the Security Council exercising its corresponding role in accordance with its own responsibilities. “China is willing to join the international community in firmly upholding the United Nations Charter, adhering to the limit of international morality, and safeguarding international equity and justice.”
