A month after the launch of the powerful x-ray scanner at the Río Haina Port, several attempts to smuggle merchandise have been detected, among which a millionaire shipment of televisions stands out.
The attempt to smuggle 482 televisions of high commercial value was detected by the modern RAPISCAN model Eagle P60-S, manufactured in the United States, implemented on February 9, after being donated by HIT Puerto Río Haina to the General Directorate of Customs (DGA).
Customs is carrying out investigations to determine the circumstances in which these devices were introduced into the country, in a hidden way, and locate those responsible for this fact.
The implementation of x-ray technology in the port of Haina is part of the actions developed by the General Director of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatónand aligned with the future vision of the president, Luis Abinader, which coincide in the objective of achieving greater security and streamlining in trade to convert the Dominican Republic into a Hub world class logistics
In addition to the high capacity to review containers entering and leaving the port, the new scanner, which the port of Haina has, has increased the average dispatch of containers from 400 to 1,000 per day.
Both the director of Customs, Sanz Lovatón, and the executives of HIT Río Haina, are satisfied with the performance of the new scanner installed in that
terminal, as well as the results that it has produced in such a short time and those that are expected to continue to be produced.
It is recalled that the donation made by HIT to the DGArepresented an investment in infrastructure and support systems of around 3 million dollars.
During its start-up, Sanz Lovatón had highlighted that this scanner in the Río Haina Port, together with the Despacho en 24 Horas program, is one more step forward to achieve the objective of positioning the Dominican Republic as Hub World class logistics.
