Wrestling in Brazil secured six medals (one gold, two silvers and everything this Friday (15) in Tunis (Tunisia), in the Zoughaier Sghaier International Tournament, from the Ranking Series: sequence of four main competitions that score for the international ranking The best-placed teams will be seeded at the Worlds, scheduled for August.
Three female freestyle fighters took the podium: Giulia Penalber (57 kg) won the gold medal, Laís Nunes (62 kg) the silver and Gabriela Rocha (68 kg) the bronze. In the men’s Greco-Roman dispute, the country secured two other podiums: Kenedy Pedrosa (72 kg) won silver and Joilson Junior (77 kg) won bronze.

Gold last year at the 2021 Pan American Wrestling in Guatemala, Giullia Penalber had three wins in a row before deciding the gold. First he beat Tunisian Faten Hammami in her debut by touche (a move that decides the fight). She then overcame Turkey’s Elvira Kamaloglu (6-2), ending the initial phase in first place. Then, Penalber was left in the semifinals (11 to 1) against Indian Mansi Mansi. In the final for gold, Penalber won over Kamagolu from Turkey, in the second fight of the day against her opponent. The Brazilian started losing by 1 to 0, but tied with one minute of the end, and three seconds to the end of the match, Penalber took down the opponent and became champion.

In the men’s Greco-Roman dispute, Kenedy Pedrosa took second place (silver) after losing the final to Turkey’s Murat Dag, 8-0, in the under 72 kg category, which brought together only three athletes. The Brazilian debuted with a 11-10 victory over Tunisian Radhwen Tarhouni.
The Brazilian delegation has seven athletes in the competition, which ends on Sunday (17).
