His first name is Valentine Olive (25), but is better known as Wos. He is a young Argentine who started music at the age of 14 and today his career continues to rise like foam, but with feet on the ground and without losing humility and simplicity.
EL DEBER spoke with the artist who will be presented on April 20. He said that he enjoys playing soccer and that it was a dream to sing in front of the world champions. as an anecdote He said that his 18 years came to Bolivia backpacking with his friends.
Where does your stage name Wos come from?
It appears when I was 14 years old, it doesn’t have a meaning, the letters appeared drawing on the graffiti, it’s a nickname, they affectionately call me Wos. At home they call me Valen.
Did your parents influence you to follow in the footsteps of music?
Yes, they always let me do what I like. When I was a boy I played soccer, they always accompanied me and were there. I grew up in a house with music and I’m grateful to them for that too.
What position did you play soccer?
At the beginning I played as a central defender, today I play as a midfielder. I still play once a week, some nice games are put together.
If he hadn’t been an artist, would he have been a footballer?
I don’t know if he gave me the talent for that (laughs).
How about the experience of singing to the Argentina team?
It was a joy, an emotion, I sang my song Arrancármelo, which played during the World Cup. I met the players, they were very kind, I think I fulfilled a double dream.
What has changed from the 15-year-old Valentine, when he started, to the one now?
Many things, some with the passage of time, others with the level of exposure that I have now. The 15-year-old Valentine has grown, but I maintain my essence.
Do you miss freestyle battles?
At times, sometimes the bug bites me, they are small moments that pass.
Where do your songs with a social and political overtone come from?
The songs are what happens in my country and the continent. Sometimes, there are decisions made by the powerful in the world, which end up affecting us and we live in societies that are going through conflicts. It is a cycle that does not want to be interrupted.
I have felt that these political themes should be expressed in my music.
Are your songs the voice of the people?
It would be too much to say that, I think there are people who feel identified and others who don’t. But knowing that some identify with my lyrics is more than enough.
I tell you that I went to Bolivia when I was 18 years old, I did it as a backpacker with my friends. I visited La Paz, Cochabamba, Sorata, Coroico and even Villa Tunari, it was one of the most special trips, I have great affection for Bolivia.
What do you say to your fans who are looking forward to it?
I would like to visit Santa Cruz, I send my regards, it will be a beautiful night and I really want to give the concert, so I’ll wait for you at my show.
