Biologists work with networks in Aceguá detecting invasive species and looking for ways to combat them
Biologists are working in the rural area near Aceguá after confirming the presence of the bullfrog, a species considered invasive that began to reproduce rapidly and is already causing serious environmental problems.
According to information collected at the site, the population would have originated when a local producer began breeding the animal for consumption, with commercial purposes linked to its meat. Over time, the specimens escaped and established themselves in waterways and natural areas, expanding uncontrollably.
Currently, specialists are collecting specimens with nets, carrying out monitoring and studies, since the bullfrog displaces native amphibians, alters ecosystems and can become a pest in a short time.
The situation is especially worrying in Villa Aceguá and surrounding areas, where work is being done to prevent the expansion from continuing to other areas of the department.
