MADRID, Spain.- The World2Fly airline resumed this weekend its flights between Lisbon, Portugal, and Varadero, Cuba. The first flight of the current summer season arrived this Saturday at the Juan Gualberto Gómez International Airport with 430 passengers.
As specified to the Cuban News Agency Juan Carlos Martínez Nordelo, supervisor of the airline, the tour will have a weekly frequency, every Saturday, until the end of October, “with passengers who will enjoy their stay in the Hicacos Peninsula and the city of Havana.”
He also pointed out that, as in the past year, World2Fly “The aerodrome in the province of Matanzas encourages the arrival, from Lisbon, of tourists interested in getting to know the largest of the Antilles.”
For his part, Andy Roger López, head of the Passenger Service department, indicated that for the airport “it is a pleasure to reopen the doors to tourism in Portugal, and consolidate ourselves as the first hosts with a quality service, efficiency and above all security”. .
World2Fly, owned by the Iberostar tourism group, began its direct flights between Lisbon and Varadero in 2022, also in the month of June and until October. The airline also operates Madrid-Havana flights, which began on September 23, 2021.
In addition to flying to Cuba, World2Fly, based in Palma de Mallorca, also covers routes between Madrid and tourist destinations in the Caribbean such as Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) and Cancun (Mexico).
At the beginning of this year, the island’s regime reported that it aspired to receive 3.5 million tourists in 2023. However, specialists consider that this figure cannot be reached, taking into account the complex situation of the economy in the country.
In 2022 Cuba barely received 1.6 million tourists and fell short of the 2.5 million planned by the Government.
