The organization states that Venezuela, according to data provided by the WHO, has the highest average alcohol consumption in all of Latin America. “It is estimated that nearly 3 million people in the country have problems with their drinking and day by day young people, women and older adults multiply, without forgetting the traditional sectors that acquire the disease of alcoholism, which represents an important focus in the deterioration of health in our country.”
According to the World Health Organization, alcoholism is a progressive and fatal disease, which in addition to physical and mental deterioration, has associated manifestations such as gastric, liver, and cardiovascular problems, among others, in addition to causing suicides, traffic accidents and domestic violence, which, although not registered as a product of alcohol, are linked to its consumption.
Alcoholics Anonymous, the organization explains in the press release, is a community of men and women who share their mutual experience, strength and hope, to solve their common problem and help others recover from alcoholism.
