World Federation of Trade Unions condemns US blockade on Cuba

Speaking tonight in a broadcast of the Europa channel for Cuba, Maria Barouti, responsible for Latin America, the Caribbean and the Arab countries, reiterated the organization’s support for the island in the fight against a policy imposed more than six decades ago.

We strongly denounce the blockade and support the Cuban people and the heroic Central de Trabajadores de Cuba, which is one of our affiliates, he stressed.

According to Barouti, the WFTU will accompany on April 2 and 3 the media marathon convened by the solidarity platform, which broadcasts every Sunday on the YouTube audiovisual network, to denounce and repudiate Washington’s aggressiveness towards the Caribbean country.

On January 23, Europe for Cuba called on the traditional media, such as radio, television and the written press, and the alternative media to carry out 24 uninterrupted hours of transmissions dedicated to the US blockade and its impact.

For us this initiative is very important to visualize the situation caused by the fence and to promote solidarity with the island, said the representative of the Federation that brings together 105 million workers from 133 countries on five continents.

For their part, the moderators of Europe for Cuba, José Antonio Toledo and Patricia Pérez, ratified the call and highlighted the progress made so far, from the incorporation of media and organizations from various countries to the media marathon.

During the program, the associations Cuba Linda, from France, and Cuba Insieme, from Italy, also confirmed their participation in the event starting at 8:00 p.m., central European time, on April 2.
