“This year the FIFA World Cup trophy tour began its fifth world trip in Dubai and will begin its journey to reach Latin America through Mexico City,” said Sergio Londoño, representative of Coca-Cola, partner of FIFA and sponsor of the tournament.
For the first time, the FIFA Cup will visit the 32 nations qualified for the World Cup, including the six from Latin America: Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador and Costa Rica.
At a press conference at the Azteca stadium and in the presence of Íñigo Riestra, general secretary of the Mexican Football Federation, Londoño specified that in Mexico the Cup will be exhibited in the capital from October 15 to 18, in Monterrey on October 19 and in Guadalajara the 20th
“The trophy used on the tour is the original one from the FIFA World Cup and it is the one provisionally awarded to the winning team,” explained Londoño.
The businessman stressed that the Cup will be protected by “an absolutely complete and complex security operation” implemented by local and federal authorities to ensure that the protocol that only Heads of State and world champion soccer players can touch the trophy is complied with.
