World Cancer Day: Incart calls for early detection

Día Mundial Contra el Cáncer: Incart hace un llamado a la detección temprana

Santo Domingo.-In commemoration of the World Cancer Daythe Rosa Emilia Sánchez Pérez de Tavares National Cancer Institute (Incart) held a multidisciplinary panel where it reaffirmed its commitment to early detectioncomprehensive care and humanized treatment.

These pillars were highlighted as determining factors in transforming the prognosis and quality of life of cancer patients in the country.

The doctor Binny Rodriguezdirector of Incart, stressed that the institution not only prioritizes access to cutting-edge technology, but also a proximity approach.

“Our commitment is that each patient receives the necessary medical resources, but accompanied by a dignified and empathetic treatment from the first contact with the center,” said the specialist.

Under the international motto “United by the One”the meeting brought together experts who highlighted that the impact of cancer transcends the clinical, affecting the family environment in a profound way. For this reason, they insisted on a person-centered care model that guarantees clear information, constant support and maximum respect for the patient’s dignity.

One of the most relevant milestones presented was the progress in the precision medicine. Dr. Mariel Pacheco, pathologist at the institute, explained that the identification of genetic alterations today allows us to offer targeted therapies according to the molecular profile of the tumorwhich significantly increases the effectiveness of the treatment.

The hospital already performs highly specialized tests in the country such as immunohistochemistry and molecular studies.

Advances in early detection and warnings of childhood cancer

On the other hand, the doctor Ivette Rodriguezin charge of oncology, stressed that the Early detection remains the most powerful tool for survival. A diagnosis in the early stages not only increases the chances of cure, but also reduces the need for aggressive interventions, allowing the patient to maintain a longer disease-free time.

They highlighted that, regardless of the stage of the disease, Incart has options to treat or improve quality of life, urging the population not to postpone their preventive medical checkups and to comply with their appointment schedule.
