World Anti-Doping Agency extends another six months restriction of tests to Cuban laboratory

OnCubaNews

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA, for its acronym in English) decided to extend for six months the restriction of analytical tests imposed on the Havana anti-doping laboratory (Cuba), which will last until November 16, 2023.

The restriction, according to a report from efeaffects the analytical method of gas chromatography/combustion and isotope ratio mass spectrometry (GC/C/IRMS), as recalled by this agency, which initially set the measure until May 16 and has now extended it based on the recommendation of its Laboratory Expert Advisory Group.

During this period, the Havana Laboratory will be able to maintain its usual anti-doping activities, in accordance with the International Standard for Laboratories (ISL), but all routine samples that require the aforementioned type of analysis must be transported safely with a chain of demonstrable custody to another WADA-accredited laboratory.

The measure was communicated last November after receiving the recommendation of its Expert Advisory Group due to “non-compliance with the International Standard for Laboratories (ISL)”, as reported WADA on their website.

On November 8, WADA sent a notice to the laboratory giving it the opportunity to respond to the recommendation or accept the restriction and related conditions. On the 14th, Havana notified that it accepted this measure and the conditions that were confirmed by the President of the Executive Committee, according to this source.

The “Olympic” success of the Havana anti-doping laboratory
