After the work in the City of Health was suspended for five years, at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 15, the work of the Social Security Fund (CSS) was reactivated.
During the event, in which health authorities and special guests participated, the director of the CSS, Enrique Lau, announced: “I invite you on December 16, 2023 to the inauguration of the City of Health, that is the commitment that we have acquired with the gentlemen of the Panamanian consortium ”.
The works will be in charge of the Construcciones Hospitalarias, SA consortium, and Lau asked his representatives present at the event to honor his word “since the Panamanian people demand it.”
Dr. Lau mentioned that the waiting time has been a long time since the project was conceptualized, “we have to make the best efforts to avoid that the scarce resources that the country has are lost, and that they are put at the service of our people who demand more and more and better health services ”.
The final cost of the City of Health will be $ 999.8 million, detailed Lau Cortés.
He revealed that the reactivation of the work will generate at least 10 thousand jobs, between direct and indirect, which will translate into a boost to the economic reactivation of the country.
The Ciudad de la Salud project consists of a set of designed buildings that will have 40 operating rooms, 1,229 beds, 832 highly specialized medical equipment including robotic surgery, and a hotel for patients with 54 rooms.
Similarly, it will have the following areas: Nephrology Institute and Blood Bank with Nephrology hospitalization for chronic kidney patients, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Institute with cardiology hospitalization and Cardiovascular Surgery Center for children, Research and Simulation Institute, Transplantation of Organs and Tissues, Maternal Fetal and Critical Obstetrics, Fetal Surgery and High Complexity Pediatric Hospital.
Among the future projects to be developed within the facilities of the City of Health, the creation of a Teaching and Research Unit is contemplated.
This project occurs after authorities of the CSS and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Panama signed an agreement so that students of this highest house of higher studies can develop and train at all levels in the branch of medicine.
There will also be the Transfusion Medicine Service, a therapeutic alternative for blood transfusion will be adequate in the facilities of the City of Health, with the aim that patients have a new option when donating blood. This will be in charge of the calculation, supply of blood and blood components, according to your needs, indications, blood administration, transfusion monitoring, among others.
