KMA Construcciones has already completed more than 20 years in the infrastructure sector in the country. In an interview with Portfolio, Menzel Amín, president of the company, told about the 4G projects and airports that are changing mobility in Colombia.

Do you have more than 20 years of experience, what are you currently working on?
We are building the Nuquí Airport, but we have been fortunate to build throughout the length and breadth of the country. Now we have managed to have two projects: the two trunk lines of Magdalena Medio, the famous route of the sun that the Government divided into two projects, fortunately we obtained both projects.
For us and all of Colombia, it is one of the most important projects in the country. This not only exceeds 50% of the connection, Bogotá – Coast, Atlantic Coast or Bogotá – The three ports (Bogotá, Cartagena and Santa Marta), it is an investment and development expected for many years.

How will the construction of these projects be?
They are projects that on average must be built 140 or 150 kilometers, and improve the entire mesh that there is on average 600 kilometers in each one.
What are the challenges of these projects?
In technical terms it is a fairly simple project. Trunk 1, is a project that is already coming out of the mountain and goes to the Magdalena River valley, and reaches almost to Barracabermeja, it is a typography between wavy and flat, and trunk 2, is a completely flat project.
The real challenge is the times, the pre-construction will last a year, which will start in August and four years more than the construction takes.
And when should it be ready?
In 2027, for the second semester.
What projects have they been in charge of?
In 2006, we were in charge of the Caribbean Route where we built 180 kilometers of second lanes, plus 240 kilometers of rehabilitation and improvement; and in Córdoba Sur, which was carried out almost simultaneously with Ruta Caribe, at the time we built 140 kilometers of dual carriageway and 240 kilometers of rehabilitation.
What other fourth generation pathways are working?
We have three projects: La Trasversal del Sisga, which is already 100% finished and is in its operational stage, and has helped the entire region. Traveling before without this project was an odyssey, it was more than 7 hours of travel if it went well for you. Now it’s a 2.5 hour drive.
The second is the northern connection, which is a project in Antioquia that connects Caucasia, Zaragosa and Remedios, it has gone through certain situations that have left it a bit behind, but this project is already 90% complete, we are running, It is a very complex area.
And the last one, the Caribe 2 project, this project structured in 2014, had the same problems as the Magdalena. Now, after helping the Government to continue, we are already in the pre-construction phase.
What projects are close to being delivered?
We have already finished the Pasto airport, with the Aeronautics we are working on visual aids that were not in our contract, but the work is already finished. We are also working with EPM on Hidrohituango, and we are working on the Nuqui airport, which is ready to be delivered next year.
How do you expect to grow in the short term?
We have several projects and we want to move them forward, and having them implies growing organizationally. In this way, for the next 12 months we are not going to tender another new project. Our goal is to structure these projects in the best way.
