This Sunday, May 1, which commemorates the International Workers’ Dayfinds employees in a difficult situation due to the global economic crisis and that affects the purchasing power of families.
This is one of the reasons why the trade union centrals will hold a demonstration in the Club Mauricio Baezat 10:00 in the morning, with the aim of drawing the attention of the authorities.
on the eve, Gabriel del Riopresident of the Classist Autonomous Trade Union Confederation (CASC), pointed out that the existing levels of inflation have caused wage increases in different sectors to vanish in just under a year of being applied.
In addition to the CASC, the National Confederation of Dominican Workers (CNTD) and the National Confederation of Union Unity (CNUS) are calling for the activity.
These three are the main trade union centers which, in turn, bring together dozens of sectoral workers’ unions.
Del Río assures that this is one of the issues that most affects workers, because their income is not enough to cover basic needs.

Changes in standards
Other issues that he understands are urgent to attend to for the benefit of the workers, are the reforms to the Labor Code and the Social Security Law.
Del Río reiterates the position that a reform to the Labour code should not touch the achievements, as is the case of unemployment.
Refering to Social Securitymaintains that the changes should go towards improvements in care, eliminate co-payments and deposits that are required in private health centers to attend emergencies.
Another issue that he understands should be advanced is the regulation of domestic work, which is under discussion in the country after the Ministry of Labor issue a resolution in compliance with the agreement of the International Labor Organization, which establishes guarantees for those who carry out this work.
