A fire hit the morning of Monday (21), the PCH-1 platform (Cherne 1), in the Campos Basin, about 130 kilometers from the coast of Macaé, in Rio de Janeiro. In a statement, Petrobras reported that an employee suffered “light burns and is conscious” and that the flames have already been ordered.
“During the incident, a worker who was serving the company crashed, fell into the sea, but was rescued, received support on support vessel and is already in the process of disembarkation aeromedical,” says the statement.
According to Petrobras, since 2020, the platform does not produce oil. “People aboard PCH-1 are well and the non-essential teams will be preemptively landed so that the integrity of the facilities is evaluated. A commission will be formed to investigate the causes of the incident,” the note adds.
Oil tanker
The General Coordinator of the North Fluminense Petrolers Union (Sindipetro-NF) and director of the Single Petrolers Federation (FUP), Sergio Borges Cordeiro, reported that the fire followed by an explosion happened around 7:25 am. According to him, 176 workers were aboard the platform.
“Gas flow was interrupted, the platform’s communications fell and emergency vessels were fired. Sindipetro-NF follows the case and charges urgent measures,” wrote Cordeiro on social networks.
Accidents in 2024
According to the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), Oil exploration and production activities in the country registered 731 accidents last year.
According to the data, 183 people were injured, 78 with gravity, and a death was recorded.
