Worker dies at Frisco Tayahua mine

Zacatecas, Zac., A worker was crushed to death by rocks in a landslide at the Tayahua mine, owned by Grupo Frisco, a subsidiary of the extractive industry of businessman Carlos Slim Helú, located in the community of Terminal de Providencia, municipality of Concepción del Oro, in the north of the state of Zacatecas.

The miner, originally from the municipality of Sombrerete, was identified as Jorge N. Local authorities indicated that the rocks crushed the worker because the walls and the sky –the upper part of the sinkhole– were not shored up as a safety measure. The accident occurred in the early morning during the third shift in the vein from which copper, gold, silver, lead and zinc are obtained.
