The unemployment rate among women was 7.7% in the third quarter of this year, above the average (6.4%) and the rate observed among men (5.3%). The data comes from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (Pnad), released this Friday (22) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
According to the IBGE, the unemployment rate for women was 45.3% higher than that for men in the third quarter of the year. The institute highlights that the difference was already much greater, reaching 69.4% in the first quarter of 2012. At the beginning of the pandemic (second quarter of 2020), the difference reached its lowest level (27%).
In the second quarter of this year, the rates were 8.6% for women, 5.6% for men and 6.9% for the average. Men’s income (R$3,459) was 28.3% higher than that of women (R$2,697) in the third quarter of this year.
The unemployment rate among black and brown people exceeded that of white people, according to the survey. The rate for the black population was 7.6% and for the brown population, 7.3%. Among whites, unemployment was just 5%.
In comparison with the previous quarter, there was a drop in the three colors/races, since in that period, the rates were 8.5% for blacks, 7.8% for browns and 5.5% for whites.
The unemployment rate for people with incomplete secondary education (10.8%) was higher than that of the other levels of education analyzed. For people with incomplete higher education, the rate was 7.2%, more than double that seen for those with completed higher education (3.2%).
