The Brazilian women’s soccer team held its first training session in Bordeaux (France), the team’s base city during the Paris Olympics, this Friday (19). The debut will be against Nigeria, at 2 pm (Brasília time) next Thursday (25), on the eve of the opening ceremony of the Games. Brazil is in Group C, which also includes Japan and Spain.
Before the ball activity at the Edouard Stehelin Training Center, coach Arthur Elias met with the players to present strategies and game plans for the first phase (groups) of the competition. Afterwards, Elias led the training, prioritizing defensive and attacking plays. The players also worked on penalty kicks.
The national team’s striker, Adriana, is confident of the team’s success at the Games, but anticipates a difficult debut against the Nigerians.
“This first game is decisive. In fact, it will always be like this. In any case, we have to be very focused and concentrated in this debut. And take it step by step,” says the 27-year-old forward, who plays for Orlando Pride (United States).
The football tournament in Paris brings together a total of 12 countries. Group A includes France, Colombia, Canada and New Zealand, and Group B includes the United States, Zambia, Germany and Australia. Only the top two teams in each group and the two best third-placed teams will advance to the quarter-finals.
