Brazil ended the first round in second place in Group B, with the same three points as Paraguay, which is ahead on goal difference, as it beat Bolivia 5-1 earlier in the same place. Venezuela, another member of the group, has not yet debuted.
The coaches of the technique Simone Jatobá (who directs the under-17 team for the first time in an official competition) took the lead in the 21st minute of the first half. Aline Gomes, from Ferroviária, finished off the goalkeeper to open the scoring. Six minutes later, fellow striker Jhonson, from Toledo-PR, won at the speed of the marker and kicked in the left corner to widen. Six minutes into the final stage, Aline Gomes scored Brazil’s third.
In the first phase of the South American, the teams are divided into two groups of five and play each other in the key. The two best of each advance to the next stage, which will be a quadrangular one. The first three go to the World Cup in India, and the most positive campaign takes the title. Brazil was champion in the 2010, 2012 and 2018 editions.
The Brazilians return to the field on Friday (4), at 18:30 (Brasília time), against Bolivia, again at Charrúa.
