Women’s Secretariat celebrates a budget to create a care system

The Women’s Secretariat celebrated that the economic package for fiscal year 2026 considers for the first time in the history of the country the transverse budgetary annex 31 to consolidate a national and progressive care system.

The agency explained that this is the result of its coordination with the National System for the Integral Development of the Family (SNDIF) and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP). He added that the amount of the annex amounts to 466 thousand 674 million 936 thousand pesos, which is equivalent to 1.21 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP).

Citlalli Hernández Mora, head of the Women’s Secretariat, highlighted the fact that economic policy recognizes that care tasks fall disproportionately in women, and in their social networks he said that “one of the priorities of the Government of Mexico is to lay the foundations for the creation of a national and progressive care system.”

On August 15, after the closing of the works of the 16 Regional Conference on the Women of Latin America and the Caribbean in Mexico City, Hernández Mora and Claudia Segovia, of the SHCP, announced the elaboration of said transverse budgetary annex.

Hernández Mora explained that this arises by indication of President Claudia Sheinbaum, since it is the commitment 55 of her government. By virtue of this, last January the Secretariat of Women, together with the SNDIF, installed an inter -institutional coordination table. The official recalled that transverse annexes are instruments that link the budget with objectives aligned with national priorities.
