Women who wish to enlist in military service may do so voluntarily from the age of 18. Decree published this Wednesday (28) in Official Gazette of the Union authorizes recruitment, starting next year, when the municipalities where female enlistment will take place must be established according to the general call-up plan.
According to the established guidelines, women can volunteer between January and June of the year in which they reach adulthood. Previously, only women admitted to non-commissioned officer and officer training courses could join the Armed Forces.
With the change, after voluntary enlistment, they will still go through the selection stages, which include health inspection and incorporation, which begins with an official act and ends with the completion of an instruction course for the exercise of basic general functions.
Withdrawal from the process is permitted up until the act of incorporation. After this stage, military service becomes mandatory and the soldier is subject to the duties and penalties provided for in the legislation, such as the application of fines and retention of the military service certificate.
Those selected will be incorporated according to the needs of the Armed Forces and the initial period of military service, lasting 12 months, may be extended according to criteria defined by the Armed Forces.
Just like men who are drafted or volunteers who enlist, women will not have stability in military service and will become part of the unpaid reserve of the Armed Forces after being discharged from service.
